The following are, in my opinion, the quickest routes to happiness...
The first happiness tip is...
Don't think that happiness is something you have to search for. Stop looking. It's there, inside you right now.
It's certainly not in a shoe shop window! (Oh, I don't know - those little strappy things are rather nice!)
But, joking apart, when you are aware of your inner happiness, outer trappings can enhance it. But they are not the cause.
Another wonderful happiness tip is to live in the moment. Unhappiness usually comes from regretting the past or worrying about the future.
Try and put your attention only on what you are doing right now. And that goes for work or pleasure.
You can't really enjoy anything, be it dinner with friends, a movie or a walk in the country, if you're thinking about all the tasks you have to do over the next month.
Or maybe even year!
Your work will be more efficient if you are focusing on one task, instead of trying to rush through the present one to get onto the next and the next.
I started feeling anxious just typing that last sentence! It's amazing how much more is achieved by focusing and thinking of one thing at a time.

Another happiness tip is to watch your words and thoughts. Both are powerful. We really do create our own reality.
So focus on the positive as much as possible. And the best way to treat negative thoughts is...
IGNORE them!
Trying to make them go away makes them more persistent. Trying to solve them can make them multiply.
You will be amazed how powerful it is to simply ignore them. Like a naughty child, they get worse and more irritating the more attention they get!
If you have a task you're not looking forward to but it has to be done then just begin it. It's amazing how easy it becomes once you've started.
I don't always 'practice what I preach on that one, but when I do it works wonders.
A nice happiness tip is planning little treats for yourself. This also works well as rewards for completed tasks. Some of my favourites are a cappuccino , a good movie or a long bath with an enjoyable book...
The possibilities are endless!
If you want happiness and joy give them! The more we say positive, happy and uplifting things to others the more we receive the same.
Many gurus say that whatever you give out good or bad, returns tenfold. Great news about the good, but the bad...whoops...better be nice!

Have plenty of fun and laughter in your life. Don't be too serious. Enlightened gurus have said to 'never trust a serious guru', because he/she probably isn't enlightened.
Enlightenment brings bliss. Blissful people do not have long faces, nor do they talk endlessly about problems.
They know that in reality there are no problems. They live in the NOW. There is nothing that we cannot handle right now.
For example, you may sometimes worry about having enought money to pay future bills? Well, if you have the money for today's bill that is all that matters!
So be blissful and happy now.
Some have become enlightened by laughing. Osho, amongst others, recommended a 'laughing meditation' If you feel really miserable just laugh! Force yourself to laugh, and soon it will be real!
It has been reported that children laugh hundreds of times a day and adults sometimes less then twenty. That's sad, because laughter is so healing.
So a quick recap and some happiness tip extras:
*One task at time
*Mix with uplifting company as much as possible.
*Make time for yourself
*Plan little treats (or big ones!)
*Treat yourself to nice things (within your budget). But don't make your happiness dependent on them.
*A happy face is a beautiful face.
